Achilles Tendinopathy & Rupture
Achilles tendinopathy and rupture are conditions that affect the Achilles tendon, which is the largest tendon in the body. It runs from the back of the calf muscles to the heel bone, and is responsible for helping to lift the heel off the ground when we walk, run, and jump.
Achilles tendinopathy is a general term that refers to any disorder of the Achilles tendon. This can include inflammation, irritation, or degeneration of the tendon. It is typically the result of overuse, strain, or injury, and can cause pain, stiffness, and tenderness in the affected area.
Achilles rupture is a more serious condition that occurs when the Achilles tendon is torn or ruptured. This can be the result of a sudden injury, such as a fall or a blow to the tendon, or it can develop gradually due to chronic tendinopathy. Symptoms of an Achilles rupture include severe pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking or standing on the affected foot.
