INGROWN TOENAIL
An ingrown toenail is a common foot condition that occurs when the edge of the toenail grows into the skin, instead of following the natural shape of the nail. This can cause pain, swelling, and redness in the affected area, and can lead to infection if left untreated.
The most common cause of ingrown toenails is improper nail care, such as cutting the nails too short or rounding the corners of the nails instead of cutting them straight across. Ingrown toenails can also be caused by wearing shoes that are too tight, which can put pressure on the toes and cause the nail to grow into the skin. In some cases, ingrown toenails can be inherited.
Symptoms of an ingrown toenail may include pain, swelling, and redness in the affected area, as well as a feeling of tenderness when touching the toe. In some cases, there may be drainage or pus from the affected area, or a foul-smelling odor. The pain may be worse with weight-bearing activities, and may improve with rest.
