METATARSALGIA
Metatarsalgia is a common foot condition that occurs when the metatarsal bones in the feet become painful and inflamed. These bones are the long bones in the middle of the feet that connect the toes to the rest of the foot.
The most common cause of metatarsalgia is overuse or strain of the metatarsal bones, which can happen with activities such as running, jumping, or standing for long periods of time. Metatarsalgia can also be caused by structural problems, such as flat feet or high arches, which can put extra strain on the metatarsal bones.
Symptoms of metatarsalgia may include pain, swelling, and tenderness in the middle of the foot, especially near the ball of the foot. The pain may be worse with weight-bearing activities, and may improve with rest. In some cases, there may be a feeling of burning or tingling in the affected area.
