GOUT

Gout is a type of arthritis that occurs when uric acid crystals build up in the joints, causing sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, and redness. In the feet, gout most commonly affects the big toe, but it can also affect the other toes, the heels, and the ankles.

The most common cause of gout in the feet is high levels of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a waste product that is produced by the breakdown of purines, which are found in certain foods, such as organ meats, seafood, and alcohol. When there is too much uric acid in the blood, it can form crystals in the joints, leading to gout.

Symptoms of gout in the feet may include sudden, severe pain, swelling, and redness in the affected joint, often in the big toe. The skin over the joint may be warm to the touch, and the joint may be stiff and tender. In some cases, there may be a fever or chills.
